Single Momhood is Losing its Luster

I don't even know if "momhood" is a word, but I do know that I'm sick of it.  Considering how many hours Evan worked this summer, and how much time he had to spend in his "office" working on estimates, it's not like it's really a different amount of work for me-- it's just different.  The kids miss their daddy, and I yearn for someone else to carry the Big Meanie torch occasionally.

I finally found a cheapie point and shoot on Saturday, but I took the elementary precaution of forgetting to buy a memory card for it.  It does take four pictures, but four pictures are not inspiring enough for me to learn how to download them from the internal memory.  Evan sounds like he has been taking lots of pictures, so I should have lots of them to post when he comes home.  Whenever that yet-to-be-determined day is.  It seems appropriate for him to come home Friday, since Central Square is having the Homecoming Parade.  Lillian Nora came home from the hospital during the Homecoming Parade four years ago, it's kind of nice how they arrange these things especially for us.

I've been to the kid's pediatrician twice already this week.  Monday was Lincoln's (late) 15-month checkup, and I also made an appointment to get Rilla's weird armpit bumps checked out.  (Molluscum contagiosum, generously shared by Elliott and Lily.)  While they were there, they got their flu vaccine for the year.  Today, Marilla woke up crying after a short nap.  She kept saying she wasn't feeling good, but couldn't narrow it down to something specific.  Finally, at 3:45, she said, "My ear hurts."  I had the doctor dialed within 10 seconds, because I have been up with an earache-y child all night, and it is not a fun activity I care to repeat.  The doctor had one appointment left for four o'clock.  I usually allow 25 minutes to get to the doctor's office, but it is about 20 minutes.  Today, I got shoes on the kids, grabbed my purse and diaper bag, got the kids in the carseat while calling the neighbor and the bus garage (Cheyenne and Elliott were already on the bus, heading home) and got to the doctor's only about 3 minutes late.  Marilla does have an infection, so I'm glad we went.  Now Elliott and Cheyenne have appointments next Monday morning for flu shots and checkups, I sincerely hope that's the last time we see our nice doctor for quite some time.  I stopped at the drug store on the way home to pick up the prescription the doctor had faxed over, and they didn't have any information on Rilla.  I think it's the first time she's ever had to be on medicine.  I love having healthy kids!  Anyway, it took longer to wait in line at the drug store than the whole doctor's office visit, I felt bad about the big kids being at the neighbor's.  Cheyenne was ecstatic, of course, because she got to have a playdate with Tess, their daughter.  This neighbor is the same wonderful person who stepped in to watch Elliott and Marilla on zero notice when Lincoln made his impatient arrival to the world.  I sure am glad I have someone to call on at times like this!

I am about to pass out with exhaustion, so I better head to bed while my brain still semi-functions.  Here's hoping to a tear free night with my sick girl!

Well, having one child sick occasionally is bound to happen sometimes with four of them! Glad it worked out well. Here's hoping Evan comes home soon!!

Well you will be relieved to know that Evan is coming home tomorrow so the homecoming parade will be in his honor. I just wanted to tell your couple days ago being that. :-) Here is to healthy kids and a home-roosting husband. Well until mid October anyway....
